PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Séverine Vuilleumier is a full Professor and Vice-dean for research at University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland (HES-SO), La Source. She is an expert in genetics and evolution of populations. Her research activities provide theoretical expectations for the evolution of species and pathogens, evolution of sex-determination systems, for interpreting genetic or genomic data and for controlling pathogen. She is using various modelling tools (analytical, statistical and simulation models) and incorporates principles from various disciplines, including ecology, genetics, evolution, mathematics and computer sciences.

Prof. Vuilleumier is committed to provide her knowledge, energy and skills to bring about concrete actions in health Science. She has acquired – by leading research projects, -strategic vision, diplomacy and sensitivity to different opinions, cultures and approaches. She has a unique career path from environment engineering to biology, genetics and health provided her with a deep understanding of the major societal and environmental challenges.

She has been granted several times – including 5 grants from the Swiss National Research Foundation – to conduct research in Institutions in Switzerland and overseas (US and Australia) She has been research associate at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) and at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) and a group leader at the University of Lausanne.
